Earthy Day

This week was rather uneventful. I managed to avoid being sick anymore, which was great. I had to sit through a SUPER LONG and detailed meeting at work.
One awesome event did happen though.
Earth day was this week. Which I loved. I think it is a great holiday, and rather entertaining.
I  do think it is really funny that all these environmentally friendly clubs print up flyer's on PAPER, and set up booths in the park square, as we know that paper brochures are not the most sustainable marketing tool. Loud music fills the air and there are even little outside booths from other organizations too. I get that the booths are set up to educate and make the whole earth day thing exciting and what not. However I think that the earth day event itself could use some um well updating on the "sustainable " department. I think all the flyer's and banners that the clubs were using to promote their clubs was rather wasteful, that doesn't mean its wrong but that is just my opinion. Another rather disturbing thing I noticed while standing and talking to a WRC volunteer was how rude people can be. I was literally standing there and having a conversation when a group of 4 girls just started grabbing things on the table and being loud. I could barely hear the quiet meek volunteer with the idiotic girls were behind me like vultures bitching and grabbing free tampons. Like really they are tampons- BIG DEAL! I wanted to so badly yell at them for being such assholes, but I was afraid I would make the volunteer cry. So I just continued my conversation.
The food cart Violetta was at the Earth day event as well. I went there and was not really impressed that much. I felt that their food was good but not really special. Yes they are organic and somewhat fast, I had to wait 20 mins for my lentil burger and fries though which was rather annoying. The fries were definitely worth ever minute, however the lentil burger was not so much. I felt that the consistency was rather squishy and crumbly, as the burger itself fell apart when I took my first bite, so not impressed. I would have rather eaten a garden burger that tasted good and didn't fall apart.
Other than the burger not being to my liking the food was delicious. I really liked the fries, as they were fresh. The cart itself is cute, and the people who served me were pleasant.I think that although I didn't feel that it particularly special it does fill a gap for people who have time and really want organic food. I would recommend that you do have time to wait though, so that you don't feel annoyed or pressed for time like I did.  Here is their link if your interested in them: http://www.violettapdx.com/

sick

This past week I have had the pleasure of being sick.
Yes, my ear has hurt all week subjecting me to wearing my black beanie hat thing everywhere I go. Secondly my nose has been profusely runny, and in turn has caused me to use two entire boxes of kleenex. Lastly my throat is sore, making me sound like a man, which may sound funny to you all, but literally scares me. I just want my little voice back!
Therefore I have resorted to drinking large amounts of raspberry tea and eating warm comforting foods. This would include potatoes, oatmeal and soup.
Not  a very fun food diet if you ask me.
Although I did try to stir it up this week by venturing down the big hill at psu to the food carts.Only to be disappointed when the food cart man messed up my order! ugh.
Hopefully this not so fun cold will check out of my body, so that I won't be a stuffy nosed coughy person.

... review on Poises Cafe

http://posiescafe.com/wp/

Tuesday afternoon welcomed me into the windy cold arms of April. I had just finished a day of class at PSU and was feeling a bit of tea and food. I was going to over to NE and my dear Harley suggested I go to Poises Cafe since it is near his house. I really wanted Pizza and decided to go see if I could go to Pizza. Sadly it was closed, leaving me Pizza-less. Therefore I headed over to Posies Cafe, a sweet little gem amongst the construction area on N Denver Street.
Posies Cafe is a nice little spot, unfortunately there is a large population of mom with small children that frequently go here. I mean yeah little kids are cute and all but they don't really belong in a coffee shop in my opinion. The shop does attempt to have an area for kids that is in the back of the shop which does help, but it would be kinda nice to have a little bit more of peace and quiet. That is really my only complaint about the sweet little shop. The walls are painted a lovely shade, the art that is hung adds character and the seating is decent. The food at this place is pretty good too. I had a lovely caperese sandwich, it was delightful. The tomatoes were not suburb, a bit on the squishy side though. Hibiscus Lemon Tea there is amazing. The lady who helped me is a great resource for helping a customer find the best tea for their needs if they aren't quiet sure what they're looking for.

Really? Yes indeed.

Rain and Rain and what omg MORE RAIN are you kidding? ugh. I got into my car and seat belted up with a look of dread that could melt a steel bridge. A 2 and a half hour drive began on friday night to the  town of Eugene.( My sister and I think Eugene has an odd smell to it ) I drove down the three lane highway of Oregon, other wise know as the I-5. The road this weekend was covered in water. There was so much water I felt like my dear old honda was literally floating down the highway at about a good 70 miles per hour at times. Not to mention that it was very difficult to see due to all the water on my windshield and back water from the road drifting on to my car from other cars. Moral of the story- I am lucky to be alive because I literally was fearing for my life to get to Eugene - I may be slightly over dramatic but it is my artistic right.
After this little adventure I arrived at my grandparents house. Which mind you doesn't smell of cats nor old people. YOu know what I"m talking about - that putrid smell that old ladies sometimes pass when you walk by them in the pet food section at pets mart. Its like nasty mixed with wrinkles. It hurts your nose pretty bad but its almost as if you cant say a word because it would just be so hurtful that the old lady may cry.
Anyway. I had dinner and went to bed.
The next day - consisted of getting ready for " Easter!" woo. Yeah I get it, Easter is great. I like it just about as much as the person who wears the rabbit suit at the mall. You know what else I like, is the Pastel colored candy. Every other holiday it seems  uses the solid colors that are uber bright. It makes me think that perhaps all marketing people think that the average American won't see something unless it is bright Red, Blue or Yellow. Hello people we can see all the colors of the rainbow thank you. Easter as well brings the weird tradition of hiding eggs, something I must say did not happen this year. Which is one thing I'm happy about because well I dont really like dyeing eggs or hiding them for that matter.
Another plus about Easter is I like candy and getting a easter presents from the parental units, I'm not one to complain. Yet this year I feel like Easter was just not as magical. Last year I had the pleasure of going to an authentic Easter service that was in a super old church in Germany. It was amazing to say the least.  This year, was good I got to to see family and eat a bunch of food. Which was rad. However my parents thought the perfect easter gift was a Chia pet. Whatever possessed them to purchase this odd thing as a gift is literally beyond me. I cant grow things. Maybe it will enlighten me, and teach me how to grow. Doubtful but yeah I will try it.  Easter also brought family eating time- an event to be described as well my father being annoying- My grandmother making so much food we could probably feed at least 30 people and my cousins being crazy.
All in all not a bad weekend. I'm really glad I got to see the family and eat some great food. Minus though the drive from hell.

Coffee. Food. Life

Well this blog idea came to me over the past spring break. I attempted well tried to blog three times over my life. Each time epic fail. The first one I did as a middle school student. Where I attempted to write poety. I suck at poetry. period.. The second attempt took me by storm when it was suggested I should "document" my time in South Korea. This was a great idea until well, it turned me into an emotional freak of nature, where I poured out all my fears and excitement. The excitement lasted literally a week and then turned to complete turmoil because I was thus quarantined for swine flu- something I dont really like thinking about but do laugh about when people get all freaked out about germs and swine flu.it makes me giggle.  Lastest attempt - Africa studies intro class- that blog was an assignment - thus I abhored the damn thing.
Now though I want to write a blog. Describing my everyday journey- I guess thats what I will call it. WHat sparked this change? Well to be honest - I watched Julie and Julia. I love that movie. I know its utterly cheesy and ridiuculous at times. But I love food and a blog on food - ahh epic awesomeness( is that even a word?) what can I say I'm inspired.
Anyway, thus the inspiration for my blog. Dont worry I'm not some crazy person who wants to cook a billion recipes. Trust me I am one of the worst ppl in the kitchen. I burn rice- how this is possible I cant even example. Therefore I am going to attempt to entertain you with my run on sentences, comedic wit and talent.I will give you a bit of a peek on what goes on the jungle of my brain and what the world is like for me.
I know not that interesting. I am just a normal college student in Portland who studies and works blah blah blah. THe end? NO
Life for me is well hmmm an adventure that I find rewarding and challanging- eh maybe not so optimisic. I basically want to spill my ideas about events in my life that strike me as well entertaining, odd, curious, annoying - get it?
Another aspect I'm going to include is my thoughts on various eateries and coffee houses in the Portland Area. Each week I will review a different place, these places of food will be vegetarian. I am a vegetarian, therefore I dont eat any animal- this includes FISH- ewww. I cant stand the sight of a dead fish, the smell the texture, the thought literally makes me ill. THis is why I have a pet fish named charlie. He is a crowntail beta and he is purple. Yep.
Coffeehouses will be the other area I will seek out and attempt to find the most interesting of places. I hope to find the jewels of this city and drink their coffee.  Any ideas Give'em up!
Lastly I will focus on me- yeah I'm selfish. Another aspect I will look at as well will be issues in the world that I find either interesting or applauing.
I do tend to repeat myself, as I am fighting with my mini computer and the annoying music in the background to keep my thoughts straight.  Not to mention the people sitting next to me sqeaking their chairs insanely loudly- it is like nails on a chalkboard to my soul. I feel like a piece of me died literally due to that noise. ugh.
Well here is to the weekend. expect frequent write ups I will title each blog entry as either : Food- coffee- Life meaning that is what area they will cover. SO enjoy-
best and rest
